FAQ
General Product Information
The Somnus Lab Sleep Pad is an advanced temperature-regulating sleep system that combines precise cooling and heating (12°C–42°C, 54°F-108°F) with smart sleep tracking and dual-zone control. It's designed to help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up feeling refreshed — without the discomfort of being too hot or too cold.
At its core, the Somnus Lab Sleep Pad uses liquid-based thermoelectric technology powered by Peltier modules. The Peltier elements actively heat or cool circulating water, which flows through an ultra-thin network inside the pad. This ensures even temperature distribution across your entire sleeping surface. Because Peltier modules have no moving parts, they operate quietly and efficiently — making the system durable and low-maintenance.
Unlike air-based systems or basic pads, Somnus Lab delivers precise, consistent, and quiet thermal control. It also features an open data platform that integrates with your existing wearables, and is designed without mandatory subscriptions.
Comfort & Temperature Control
Yes. With dual-zone control, each side of the bed can be set independently—perfect for couples with different comfort preferences.
You'll typically notice changes within 10–15 minutes. The system's thermal efficiency means it can shift between warm and cool quickly, making bedtime comfort nearly instant.
For most people, not at all. The pad is ultra-thin and sits under your fitted sheet, so you'll mainly notice the perfect temperature—not the tech beneath. But if you're the "princess" from The Princess and the Pea, you might feel the tiniest something.
You can adjust temperature manually anytime or set it to run automatically with two layers of scheduling:
- Bedtime & Wake-Up Scheduling – The system starts pre-cooling or pre-heating 30 minutes before your set bedtime, and turns off 30 minutes after your wake-up time (in case you take a little longer to get out of bed).
- Temperature Blocks Scheduling – Each night is divided into three preset phases:
- Wind Down – The period after you get in bed but before you actually sleep. Some prefer it warm, others cool—it's up to you.
- Early Night – From bedtime until late night begins. Typically set cooler to encourage deeper sleep, which happens more in the first half of the night.
- Late Night – From late night start until wake-up or thermal alarm. Often set slightly warmer for comfort and to prepare for waking.
Sleep Tracking & Smart Features
Somnus Insight is our built-in sleep monitoring system. It measures heart rate, respiration, HRV, sleep stages, motion, and snoring without requiring you to wear anything.
Yes. Somnus Lab runs on an open data platform that lets it integrate with most wearables and health-tracking apps.
Absolutely. Our platform is device-agnostic — we don't lock you into a proprietary tracker. Whether you're using an Apple Watch, Oura Ring, Garmin, or others, you can combine their data with Somnus Lab insights.
Instead of a jarring sound, the pad gradually increases the temperature in the morning to signal your body it's time to wake up — helping you feel more alert and less groggy.
Tip: You can still use a sound alarm alongside it.
Installation & Maintenance
Place the pad on your mattress, connect it to the base unit, fill the water reservoir, and plug it in. Pair it with the Somnus Lab app to set your preferences.
For best performance, use distilled water. To prevent microbial growth, add a small amount of a laundry sanitizer (0% bleach, color-safe) that contains benzalkonium chloride (BAK).
Most users can find this by searching for: Laundry Sanitizer, No Bleach, Color Safe. Check the ingredient label and make sure it lists Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride, Octyl Decyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride, Dioctyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride, and/or Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride as active ingredients. Do not use products that contain bleach.
Initial fill:
When filling the system for the first time, dose the water to ~50 ppm BAK. For 0.9 liters (about 30 fl oz) per side, add 3-5mL/½–1 teaspoon of a typical 1.0–1.5% BAK laundry sanitizer per side.
Topping off water:
Each time you add water, add a small maintenance dose to reach ~25 ppm BAK for the added water only. As a guideline, this is typically 2–3 ml/¼-½ teaspoon of the same laundry sanitizer per side per top-off.
Maintenance:
BAK slowly breaks down over time, so small maintenance doses are sufficient. Flush and completely replace the water every 6 months to prevent buildup and maintain optimal performance.
The device runs at under 30 dB during steady operation — quieter than a whisper.
Note: It may be slightly louder during startup or when working harder (e.g., in very hot environments at turbo settings).
Check water every 2–3 months (depending on the natural evaporation in your area). Both the device (via flashing red lights) and the app will notify you when to add water. Occasional flushing and reservoir cleaning is recommended.
Somnus Lab App
The app gives you full control of the Sleep Pad: dual-zone temperature adjustment, multi-stage scheduling across the night, and a thermal alarm for gentle wake-up. It also provides sleep insights including sleep score, duration, and stage tracking.
No. You can change temperature directly on the base unit or with the bedside dial for no-screen adjustments in the dark. The system also works without internet. The app is required for advanced features like multi-stage scheduling, analytics, and wearable integrations.
Sleep score, total sleep time, bedtime and wake time, and a breakdown of stages (awake, REM, light, deep). Nightly efficiency and visual graphs help you spot patterns over time.
Yes. The app supports dual-zone control so each sleeper can set their own target temperature, schedule, and wake-up routine.
No mandatory subscription to use the Sleep Pad or the app’s core functions.
Connectivity
The Somnus Lab Sleep Pad is designed to provide basic functions without internet. Physical buttons on the base unit and bedside dial ensure the machine can be turned on and temperature settings can be adjusted without connecting to the internet. But for the best experience with all smart features, an internet connection via Wi-Fi is highly recommended.
Yes. The product needs an initial Wi-Fi connection to obtain the settings of schedules. But if the Wi-Fi is out during its operation, it will continue to follow the schedules and automatic temperature adjustments. However, sleep tracking will be unavailable.
Safety & Sustainability
Yes. The system uses low-voltage power, leak detection sensors, and precise thermal controls for safe, worry-free operation.
Yes. By only controlling the temperature of your bed instead of your entire room, you can use less AC or heating — reducing energy consumption and your carbon footprint.
Purchasing & Warranty
No. There will be no mandatory subscriptions. All current features — including sleep tracking — are included in the purchase price.
A 2-year warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship.
Yes. We offer a 30-night trial with a full refund.

Objection Handling – Common Concerns Answered
You could — but that changes the whole room’s temperature (and your energy bill) and doesn’t adapt to your body’s needs through the night.
Even good sleepers can benefit from improved recovery and more consistent sleep quality. Think of it like upgrading from a good mattress to a great one.
Temperature is the most important environmental factor for sleep quality. In our tests, users improved objective sleep scores by 5–25%.
Better sleep means better recovery, higher productivity, and improved long-term health. Over years of use, the return is far greater than the cost.
If you have a medical condition like chronic insomnia, you should seek professional treatment. Think of us as a performance enhancement coach for sleep — if you’ve got a “broken bone,” we can’t fix that. Our product is designed to improve sleep in general conditions by actively creating an optimal sleep environment. Instead of just telling you to avoid screens before bed (which is good advice but hard to follow), we focus on action-oriented solutions you can benefit from effortlessly.
